The Water Theme Park

June 6th, 2017

This date was a really important one as on this day, I found out what grade I would be graduating from University with.  Without even realising what day it was, we had planned to go to Volcano Bay, which as mentioned previously, was Universal's newest 'Water Theme Park'.  I had been watching a few vloggers in the run-up to our holiday to find out as much information as I could about this new water park.  When the day finally arrived we had underestimated how busy it would actually be.  Having heard a few rumours about the park reaching capacity by 12:00pm we thought 'eh, as long as we get there before 10:00am we will be fine!'.  Yeah, we were really lucky. Just as we were going through the turnstiles to get into the park, I overheard one of the staff members say 'yeah we're at capacity.  Let this last group through then we're going to have to stop entry'.  Yep, we were the last group to enter the park! How lucky is that?!

The park actually was not as busy as I was expecting.  The wait times were fairly low, for example, only a 90-minute wait for the main attraction, the Krakatau Aqua Coaster.  This sounds like a long wait but in Volcano Bay, you scan your wristband at one of the interactive screens at the front of each attraction and it holds your place in line for you automatically.  It does decrease the wait time by 10 minutes as they anticipate that you are to wait 10 minutes in the actual line.  The only attraction that was 'Ride Now' was Taniwha Tubes which had quite a long wait time.  Not to mention that you were waiting outside in the heat for quite a while.

Whilst we were waiting for our ride time for Krakatau, it was time for the moment of finding out my result.  Luckily the wifi in the park was very fast so the anticipation was not as bad as I was expecting.

Within 5 minutes, I had discovered that I was graduating from Swansea University with a high 2:2 (56%) in English Literature and Language.

Although many people were hoping for a 2:1 I was absolutely thrilled with my result.  It's safe to say that some of my English teachers in school were not that supportive of me and did not understand my ideas when it came to understanding or interpreting poetry, for example.  In fact, one of my teachers just wrote 'NO' next to an essay that I wrote.  So this result was an 'in your face' moment to those teachers who did not believe in me in school.  Instead, at University I was given high praise for my unique ideas and gave my lecturers a new insight into how they should view the texts they had been studying for years.

To celebrate? Well considering it was my first time in America as a 21-year-old, I celebrated my result with a cocktail at 10:00am.  Hey, if you can't drink in the morning whilst on holiday, when can you?!

We were also told that the food in Volcano Bay was amazing.  Safe to say it was.  Normally in theme parks, you get the usual overpriced hot dogs and popcorn buckets but in Volcano Bay, the food was incredible and so reasonably priced too! As strange as it sounds, the hot weather meant that we weren't looking for anything too filling.  The lighter options were incredible, including a range of salads, tacos and lemonade slushies to keep you cool throughout the day.  Unfortunately, to my knowledge, the menu has changed to more of a fast food feel, including pizzas and burgers, but it is still supposed to be amazing!

The next day, we thought we would try to get into Volcano Bay again to make the most of our park passes. HA. Yeah, we arrived even earlier the next day and couldn't even get into the car park.  Looks like our luck had run out! I'm a believer in things happening for a reason, so maybe if we went a second time it would have ruined the magic? Who knows!
